Accessibility

Our commitment to making Modulon usable by every clinic team member and every patient, and how to tell us when it falls short.

01Our commitment#

Modulon is used by clinic staff every day and reaches patients by phone, text and the web. We want every one of those people to be able to use it, whatever their abilities, language and device, and whatever assistive technology they use.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA across this website, the Modulon platform and the pages patients see, such as online booking, intake forms and payment pages.

02Standards we meet#

Conforming to WCAG 2.2 AA helps clinics meet the accessibility rules that apply to them, including:

  • In the United States, Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, whose rule requires the web content and mobile apps of healthcare providers that receive federal funding to meet WCAG 2.1 AA, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • In Europe, the European Accessibility Act and the harmonized standard EN 301 549, and in the United Kingdom, the Equality Act 2010.
  • In the Gulf states, national laws on the rights of people with disabilities, and the health authorities' expectations for accessible patient services.

We publish an Accessibility Conformance Report for the platform and patient pages, based on the VPAT template, and share it with clinics on request.

03What we do#

  • Build on semantic HTML, so pages work with screen readers, voice control and other assistive technology.
  • Make every action reachable by keyboard, with a clearly visible focus indicator.
  • Meet WCAG contrast ratios for text and controls, and never rely on color alone to convey meaning.
  • Support browser zoom up to 400% and text resizing without loss of content.
  • Respect reduced-motion settings by removing animation for people who ask for it.
  • Provide text alternatives for images, and a visible label for every form field.
  • Lay out pages right to left for Arabic, with text, numbers and form fields in the right direction.
  • Give touch targets enough room, and keep forms forgiving of how people type dates and phone numbers.
  • Test with automated tools and by hand, including with screen readers, as part of building each feature.

04Patient communications#

Patients can reach their clinic through Modulon in the way that suits them:

  • Anything that can be done by phone can also be done by text, and the other way round.
  • The voice receptionist speaks clearly, lets callers interrupt, slow it down or ask it to repeat, and transfers to staff on request.
  • Patients can be served in English or Arabic, where the clinic offers it.
  • Booking, intake and payment pages work on mobile and with assistive technology.
  • Callers using a relay service, such as 711 in the United States, are supported.
  • Texts use plain language and avoid abbreviations, and links open pages that work with screen readers.

05Known limitations#

We are working toward full conformance, and some parts of the service may not yet meet our standard. Areas we are actively improving include:

  • Complex charts in the platform's analytics, which we are pairing with table views of the same data.
  • Documents and faxes received from third parties, whose accessibility we cannot always control.
  • Animated illustrations on this website, which hold still for anyone who prefers reduced motion.

If you run into a barrier anywhere else, please tell us so we can fix it.

06Feedback and help#

If you have trouble using any part of Modulon, or need information in a different format, write to hello@modulonhealth.com. Please tell us the page or feature, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you use.

We aim to reply within two business days and, where we cannot fix the problem right away, to give you another way to get what you need in the meantime. Patients can also contact their clinic directly for help.

07Review#

We review this statement, and the accessibility of the service, at least once a year and whenever we make a major change to the product.
